The Helsinki Grand Trophy put the skills of both rider and horse to the test. The CSI5*-W 1.60m course had only four clear rounds. After an exciting jump-off, the trophy came in the hands of the French Kevin Staut.
36 riders rode their noble steeds into the 1.60m high course, of which only four of them came out with a clear round and going into the jump-off. Kevin Staut steered the 10 years old Beau de Laubry Z, a gelding by Bisquet Balou vd Mispelaere to victory with perfect jump-off in a time of 35,70s. The only other pair who managed to stay double clear was Italian Francesco Turturiello and Quite Balou (Quite Capitol), who filled in second place. Shane Breen had nine hundredths of a second less on the clock then Staut but Cuick Star Kervec (Quick Star) touching a pole resulted in third place. The last combination in the jump-off was Germany's Philipp Schulze Topphoff aboard of Carla NRW (Comme il Faut), who ended on four.
The top five was concluded by Marc McAuley (IRL) and GRS Lady Amaro (Amaretto d Arco).
