In the third 5* competition of the Opening Day in La Baule, it was Marcus Westergren who kept the French Nicolas Delmotte from victory. Out of 61 combinations, the Swede was the best in the saddle of Fellaini de Liebri Z (v. Faustino de Tili).
The battle for the podium spots was a tight one. At three we saw another Irish combination: Max Wachman (IRL) and Quintini (by Quintender 2). They were two hundredths ahead of France's Nicolas Delmotte (FRA), in the saddle of Ilex VP (by Diamant de Semilly). The fastest time was ridden by Marcus Westergren (SWE) and the mare Fellaini de Liebri Z, a daughter of Faustino de Tili.
Gregory Wathelet (BEL) came thirteenth out of 61 competitors and had Ace of Hearts under the saddle, a thirteen-year-old gelding by Aliandro B. The duo set their time at a sharp 65.25 seconds and was thus good for fifth place. With only one hundredth difference, Irishman Cian O'Connor (IRL) with Checkter (by Cellestial) stayed ahead of Wathelet.
