The promising proteges of Niels Bruynseels

As a top rider, Niels Bruynseels knows exactly what the sport, and therefore also breeding, demands. Athletic horses with the right mindset and mentality, a good canter, scope, and rideability. His ambitions for the sport combined with his passion for breeding have resulted in an exclusive stallion collection, including top talents like Un Baron van de Zeshoek, Vintage, and Qupido H. Each of these stallions represent first-class damlines and meet the strict criteria of the Belgian team rider.

That Niels Bruynseels belongs to the best riders in the world is the result of a constant series of outstanding performances with multiple talented horses. He has trained most horses from a young age and has therefore developed a very good eye for talent. Horses that later proved themselves at the highest level already gave him a special feeling at a young age. And that feeling is also present with, for example, the young stallions Un Baron van de Zeshoek, Vintage, and Qupido H. In addition, his former top horse Jenson van ’t Meulenhof Z, who is an up-and-coming top sire and available at Zangersheide, as well as the talented Senecio Z (s.Hunters Scendro) are part of the NB Stallions collection. Last mentioned is available at his co-owner Van de Heffinck.

Unlimited potential

Among Niels’ absolute favorites is the just four-year-old Un Baron van de Zeshoek, a son of El Barone 111 Z out of the damline of top level horses such as Eldorado van de Zeshoek, GL Events Dorai d’Aiguilly, and Bijou Orai. “Un Baron van de Zeshoek is a very special horse, when I first saw him jump I fell in love instantly. I have very high expectations of him for both sport and breeding, and last year I immediately covered about fifteen of my own mares with him. He has a very good pedigree and has already made an impression at the stallion approvals and in the stallion competition,” says Niels about this BWP approved stallion, whose first offspring seem to meet all high expectations. “Breeding has always had my interest and I have had several very good stallions in my career. Sport comes first for me, but I now have a number of stallions that also have added value for breeding. Our offering is limited, because in my opinion only the best stallions are good enough.” Niels also refers to the blood-made Vintage, a son of Vagabond de la Pomme. “I spotted Vintage at the stallion approval in Oldenburg and bought him there together with Paul Schockemöhle. He then came to our stable and is being trained by Jorik Vervoort, with whom he is doing very well. Vintage is getting stronger and stronger and has a lot of talent as a showjumper. He is very light-footed, has a lot of blood, and jumps with a very good use of his body. On top of that, Vintage has a delightful character: he really likes to work together with his rider,” says Niels Bruynseels. In the stallion competition, Vintage has already shown his qualities and he comes from a very good lineage. His dam Ilona is a half-sister to the international 1.50/1.60m level horses Check In (s.Cordalmé Z), with whom Samantha McIntosh participated in the World Equestrian Games, Check Up 3 (s.Cordalmé Z), and Checkter (s.Cellestial).

Future top horse

A third very interesting option for performance breeders is the eight-year-old Qupido H. This son of the Grand Prix showjumping and breeding stallion Cicero Z was trained by Jorik Vervoort and came under Niels' care earlier this year. They have already delivered remarkable clear rounds in the 1.40m classes. “Already at the stallion approval in Lier, Qupido H made a huge impression on me in free jumping, and I was motivated by his bloodline as well. He has an excellent mother and I really like the combination of Cicero Z and Baloubet du Rouet. I think that Qupido has everything it takes for the big sport. He has a lot of blood and is very sensitive, so I am really taking my time with him. The feeling he gives me, makes me believe that he can grow into one of my top horses. His first offspring are very promising as well, they have a lot of blood and quality just like their father. Given his own talent and strong pedigree, that comes as no surprise,” concludes Niels Bruynseels. Qupido H’s dam Daloubette van de Krekebeke has competed at the highest level with Bart Clarys and Julie De Pelsmaeker, and has already produced no less than ten internationally performing offspring including the 1.55/1.60m level competing Jaloubet van de Oosthoeve (s.Berlin) ridden by Juan Carlos Perez Resendi.
