he first 2* competition of the 2017 season has been completed and with it the first points scored for the Calver Wealth Management 2* League. On board for a second year as title sponsors, specialist financial advisors Calver Wealth Management generously support the 2* league which recognises talented young horses making their way up the ranks under British riders. The Belton International CIC2* provided the first opportunity for horses to collect points toward the league which is open to horses under the age of nine, that have never competed at three or four star level and are ridden by a Brit. Mrs Michele Saul’s No Excuse has taken an early lead in the 2017 league with Rosalind Canter having collected the maximum 16 BE points available in section F of the CIC2* at the end of March. The eight year old gelding impressed at the Lincolnshire event to finish on a score of 41.20 penalties ahead of third placed Kitty King and the eight year old Vendredi Biats (owned by Mrs Diana Bown, Mrs Sally Lloyd-Bake, Mrs Samantha Wilson and Mrs Sally Eyre) who took 12 BE points to put them in second place in the league. Currently third in the league Izzy Taylor and Mrs Jocelyn Riley’s Direct Cassino finished in fifth place in section F to take eight points ahead Felicity Collins, (RSH Contend or, owned by Ms Vicky Collins and Mrs Avrina Milton) who won six BE points for her sixth position in the same section. Richard Coney and his own Kananaskis also secured six points for the league as they held sixth place in section J of the CIC2* for a joint fourth place in the league as it stands. Three combinations hold equal sixth place in the early stages with Georgie Spence (Miss Lucy Flemming and Mrs Molly Fisher’s Captain Future), Jodie Amos (Springpower, owned by Jeremy and Andrea Brereton) and Steve Garrod (Ms Teresa Camm, Miss Izzy Laurence and his own Ufonzo) all taking home four BE points from the Belton CIC2*.
