Germany previously announced who could potentially head to the FEI Jumping World Championships on home soil. However, following last weekend's Nations Cup competition in Falsterbo, Sweden, André Thieme has decided to give up his spot on the World Championship team.
The news was reported by the German Federation (FN). Following Thieme's withdrawal, Marcus Ehning and Coolio will move up to join the team. Reigning Olympic champions Christian Kukuk and Checker are the new reserve combination.
"I noticed in Falsterbo that Chakaria is currently not jumping the open water with the confidence she normally shows. In the best interest of my horse and the team, I have therefore decided to withdraw from the World Championships. We don't want to take any risks and will now work calmly on restoring her full confidence at the water. Of course, I would have loved to be part of this great team in Aachen. But for me, the relationship of trust with my horse comes first. That is why this is the right decision, even though it is a difficult one for me. Now, I'll be crossing my fingers from home and wishing our team the best of luck," André Thieme told FN
National coach Otto Becker supports Thieme's decision: "These kinds of decisions are never easy in elite sport, but unfortunately, they are part of it. André Thieme assessed the situation with Chakaria very responsibly. His decision has my utmost respect. With Marcus Ehning and Coolio, a combination with championship experience moves up."
