Belgian rider Nathan Budd has announced the sporting retirement of his longtime equine partner, Cadix des Rosiers. The 17-year-old sBs mare, a daughter of Kashmir van Schuttershof, has enjoyed a remarkable career at the top of the sport. The pair most recently competed internationally in Bonheiden earlier this year and previously jumped at the CSI5* level, including appearances in Geneva in 2023.
“I share this news today with deep gratitude, though also with a heavy heart,” Budd said. “Our paths first crossed 13 years ago, and you completely changed my life. You were my first horse at Haras des Rosiers and taught me everything.”
“From the beginning to our first CSI5*, from our first Grand Prix to our first Nations Cup—everything we experienced, we discovered together. You helped shape me into the rider I am today. You did it all with passion, humility, and determination. You will forever hold a place in my heart.”
As a combination, Budd and Cadix des Rosiers captured victory in the second qualifier at the WBFSH FEI World Breeding Championship for 5-Year-Olds back in 2013. Their career highlights also include top finishes in the CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix of Brussels in 2018, the CSI5* 1.50m in Lyon in 2022, and the CSI4* 1.50m in Rouen.
