Traditionally, the fall season is the time when FEI regulations are revised. Based on proposals from the IJRC and national federations, rule changes will be officially discussed and approved during the General Assembly in November. Among other things, the distribution of ranking points for five, four, and three-star Nations Cups has been reviewed. This proposal was already approved by the FEI on September 24th and will come into effect on January 1st, 2025!
Changes to the Longines Ranking
The Longines Ranking Working Group and the FEI board have reached a consensus. Currently, the Longines Ranking is calculated based on the points a rider accumulates throughout the year. The best 30 results count. The point system is constantly shifting. This means that the points a rider collects in one month are added, and the points from the same month a year earlier are discarded. The advantage for riders? The Longines Ranking is a measuring tool to be invited to various international competitions!
Proposal for Change by the IRJC and FEI
The IRJC and the FEI have jointly developed a proposal. It is the opinion that the current point distribution between a 5-star Nations Cup and 3-star and 4-star Nations Cups does not reflect the level. In addition, the working group wants to reduce the number of points that can be earned at a Nations Cup competition, especially for 3 and 4-star Nations Cup competitions. Furthermore, it also wants to take double clear rounds (art. 9.4) into account in its scoring. These double clear rounds should serve as an indicator of whether it was a simple or difficult competition. Points at competitions with fewer double clear rounds are given more value (factor 1.3) compared to competitions with many double clear rounds (up to factor 0.5).
