Al Marri was set to represent the UAE aboard the 14-year-old gelding BBS McGregor (Cardento x Mark Twain XX), having secured a spot on the nation's definite entry list.

"Sport sometimes has other plans"

The rider shared the news on his social media accounts:

"It’s difficult to put into words how I feel knowing that I will miss the World Equestrian Games in Aachen due to an injury. Representing the UAE on the world stage is something I never take for granted. Aachen was a championship I was incredibly proud to qualify for, and one I had been working towards for a long time."

Reflecting on the nature of high-level sport, Al Marri added:

"You can prepare for everything, give everything, and sometimes things still don’t go according to plan. Of course, I’m disappointed, but I’m also grateful — for my horses, my team, my family, and every opportunity to ride carrying the UAE flag. For now, the focus changes to recovery."
