The Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Madrid was decided after a jump-off with seven riders. Ultimately, Ioli Mytilineou surprised everyone with a victory after a fantastic ride aboard L'Artiste de Toxandra! For Ioli her first ever CSI5* Grand Prix win...
The first clear round in the jump-off came from Hans-Dieter Dreher with the 13-year-old Elysium (VDL Zirocco Blue). The duo finished fault-free in 36.12 seconds. Their performance was immediately surpassed by Ioli Mytilineou and L'Artiste de Toxandra (Toulon). "I really didn’t think I could beat that time," said the Greek rider after her round with the 14-year-old BWP gelding. "I got my confidence boost at just the right moment..."
"I felt completely overwhelmed, I really can’t believe it. My first CSI5 Grand Prix win ever. I don’t consider myself or my horse particularly fast. But suddenly, I dared to give that final push. I had no expectations, but I did believe it was possible,"* said the rider. "This proves once again that believing in yourself is a must!"
Next up was Pieter Devos with his homebred Casual DV (Cornet Obolensky). Riding the 10-year-old Zangersheide mare, Devos also delivered a clear round, finishing in 36.40 seconds, which temporarily put him in third place.
The last rider to go, Marco Kutscher, managed to push Devos off the podium. Riding the 12-year-old Aventador S (Armitage), Kutscher jumped to an eventual second place with a time of 35.98 seconds.
Hans-Dieter Dreher thus finished third, ahead of Pieter Devos. The top five of this 1.60m CSI5* Grand Prix was completed by Cian O'Connor with the 14-year-old Bentley de Sury (Sunday de Riverland).
