Ireland delivered a composed performance to take victory in the CSIO4* Nations Cup of Poland in Sopot. The Irish squad finished on a total of eight penalties across the two rounds, holding off strong challenges from Argentina and Japan to secure the top spot on the podium.
The winning Irish team, led by Shane Breen aboard Scarteen (Cardento), Alexander Butler with Ti Amo B Z (Tolan R), Max Wachman riding Fancy de Kergane (Casco Bay), and Billy Twomey aboard Ace of Hearts Z (Action-Breaker), finished the competition on eight penalties. Wachman proved particularly valuable for the team effort, producing two faultless rounds as Ireland secured victory in the prestigious 1.55m Nations Cup.
Following Ireland’s victory, the winning team paid tribute to the organisers and volunteers in Sopot. “We’re delighted to be standing on top of the podium. Thank you for taking such great care of us throughout the week. The hospitality has been fantastic, and we’re already looking forward to coming back next year,” the Irish riders said as they celebrated their Nations Cup success together.
Argentina claimed runner-up honours after also finishing on eight penalties, but had to settle for second place behind the Irish. The Argentine team relied on Ignacio Maurin and Conchado, Juan Bautista Pidutti Hortas with Ninvaro PS, Matias Larocca aboard Patron van de Dweerhoeve, and José María Larocca Jr. with Chris.
The final podium position went to Japan, which completed the competition on twelve penalties. The Japanese team featured Takashi Haase Shibayama with Karamell M & M, Koki Saito aboard Elliot de Gineau JRA, and Taizo Sugitani riding Quincy 194, producing a consistent performance throughout both rounds.
Just outside the podium places, Denmark finished fourth on twelve penalties. The Danish team counted on Soren Moeller Rohde with Evolution Ask DWB, Laura Baaring Kjaergaard aboard Guppie VDL, Emil Hallundbaek with Kananell, and Rikke Belinda Barker riding Tabalou PS.
Rounding out the top five was Austria on sixteen penalties. The Austrian line-up consisted of Dominik Juffinger and Neugschwents Diamant, Wolfgang Ötschmaier with Zidane 7, Fritz Kogelnig Jr. aboard BG Rio van de Groenhoeve, and Felix Koller riding Cossinelle.
