Jos Lansink, the highly regarded and successful coach of the Dutch show jumping team, has announced his resignation. Lansink, known for his demanding schedule, has indicated that he needs to make some choices. "I have filled this role with great pleasure for three years, but I see no way to combine my duties as a coach with my own business any longer."
Jos Lansink has held the position of national coach for the past three years and has garnered much praise and appreciation during that time. The man who achieved so much as a rider has also been very successful and valued as a coach. His departure is therefore felt as a huge loss. "Sometimes you have to make choices in life and that's what I've done. I've enjoyed being the national coach very much. It's a great job, but also one that takes a lot of time. If I do this job, I also want to give it 100% and do it the way I think it should be done. I want to see the riders and horses themselves at work at competitions on a regular basis and not just look at the results. That takes a lot of time and I've enjoyed it, but I have a business at home with a lot of activities and I can't combine that anymore. I've also found the cooperation with the riders and KNHS employees to be very pleasant and I am very grateful to everyone for that, but for now I'm taking a step back." See the video below with Jos Lansink in which he explains his departure.
Highlights
In 2022, Jos Lansink succeeded Rob Ehrens. In his first year as national coach, Lansink won silver with his team at the World Championships in Herning, earning the team a starting place for the Paris Olympic Games. At that World Championship, Maikel van der Vleuten also won individual bronze with Beauville Z N.O.P. In the 2022 and 2023 World Cup Finals, Harrie Smolders and Monaco N.O.P. finished second twice.
This year, at the Olympic Games in Paris, the TeamNL show jumpers finished just off the podium with a minimal deficit. Individually, Maikel van der Vleuten won bronze at the Games in Paris. Recently, the TeamNL show jumpers finished a strong second in the final of the FEI Longines League of Nations in Barcelona. In addition to these great results at championships, the show jumping team has performed strongly in various Nations Cups over the past three years.
Grateful
KNHS Technical Director Iris Boelhouwer regrets Lansink's departure. "As KNHS, we respect Jos' decision to focus fully on his own business, even though we are sorry to see him leave. In the past three years, he has contributed enormously to our show jumpers and the entire team with his passion, experience, and expertise. And we will also miss him as a direct colleague. His dedication and ability to inspire riders have made an impression and produced valuable results. We are very grateful to Jos for everything he has achieved and meant for Dutch show jumping."
