A dominant performance on home soil delivered a spectacular victory for Mexico’s Jose Antonio Chedraui Eguia in the featured 1.60m CSI5 Grand Prix of Coapexpan. Riding the 11-year-old stallion Con-Cor, Chedraui Eguia produced two masterful clear rounds to secure top honors ahead of international contenders from Australia, Norway, and New Zealand.*
Four horse-and-rider combinations managed to advance to the decisive jump-off after a demanding first round over the 1.60m tracks. Setting the gold standard against the clock, Jose Antonio Chedraui Eguia piloted Con-Cor (v. Starpower x Padinus) to a second spotless round, stopping the clock in a blistering 48.20 seconds. The KWPN stallion—bred by Familie Flamma in Geesteren—showed supreme scope and agility to capture the top spot for the host nation.
Australia’s Lauren Balcomb mounted a fierce challenge aboard the Belgian-bred Verdini d'Houtveld Z (v. Verdi TN x Caretino). The duo also left all the rails intact in the jump-off, crossing the finish line in 50.25 seconds to secure a impressive runner-up finish. Verdini d'Houtveld Z was bred in Belgium by Xavier van Melckenbeke.
Norway's Cecilie Hatteland completed the podium with Que Pasa JW - LVM (v. Di Cantero van ter Hulst x I Am Moerhoeve's Star). Bred by Jan Wuytack & Luc Van Meersche, the BWP gelding posted the fastest jump-off time of 53.09 seconds, but a single costly fence down left them in third place on four penalty points.
New Zealand's Sharn Wordley took fourth place with Brin d'Or de Haute Melen Z (v. Bamboo van Het Eikenhof x Ogano Sitte), picking up eight fault points in the jump-off in 51.70 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Latvia’s Kristaps Neretnieks aboard Valour (v. Verdi TN x Calido I), who recorded four faults in the initial round in a time of 82.90 seconds.
