The Trofeo Funeraria Gijonesa, a CSI4* Longines Ranking class over 1.50m, brought international top combinations to the Las Mestas arena. With 46 participants and only fourteen clear two-phase rounds, it turned into a thrilling contest.
Victory went to Ireland’s Mark McAuley with Fury Nocturne (Volnay du Boisdeville), stopping the clock at 32.39 seconds. His faultless ride was both powerful and efficient, just edging out the competition.
Only seven-tenths behind followed Spain’s Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with Made In’t Ruytershof (Norton D’ Eole). The Spaniard kept the crowd on the edge of their seats but had to settle for second place in 33.07 seconds.
The podium was completed by the Netherlands: Jur Vrieling guided Cornet Blue PS (Chacco-Blue) to a flawless round, clocking 33.33 seconds, just fractions behind the top two. His performance secured a strong podium finish for the Dutch team.
In fourth place came another Spaniard, Pello Elorduy Ibarzabal, who piloted Champenoise de Rampan (Voltigeur de Rampan) clear in 33.78 seconds. The gap to the podium was minimal, but it marked his best international placing in this series to date.
Fifth place went to Robin Muhr with Galaxy HM (Quality Time TN), who also remained faultless and completed the top five in 33.80 seconds.
