Last Saturday's Grand Prix of Cannes did not go as hoped for the French show jumper. Following a heavy fall with his horse Gatsby, the rider sustained significant injuries. Fortunately, the horse escaped unharmed, but a long road to recovery lies ahead for the rider.
Following the crash, Delestre was immediately rushed to the hospital. The medical diagnosis was severe: a dislocated collarbone, torn ligaments, and severe hematomas to both his temple and the back of his head.
The Frenchman underwent successful surgery this past Monday. "The operation went well," the rider shared. "My shoulder is now stabilized, and the doctors verified that there was no further damage to the collarbone. However, my left arm will have to remain completely immobilized for the coming weeks."
Heartwarming Support
Despite the physical setback, the rider is drawing plenty of courage from the overwhelming response from the equestrian community. "I want to thank everyone for the incredible support, the messages, and the phone calls. This hit hard and unexpectedly, but feeling so supported helps me immensely to get through these long weeks without riding my horses."
The entire team at EquNews wishes Simon a swift and full recovery!
