Evergate Stables, well-known for Jennifer Gates and Nayel Nassar, has announced the competitive retirement of Coronado (Cassini x Acord II). The 17-year-old gelding, bred by Karl-Heinz Markussen, jumped at the highest level with Nassar in the saddle.
Coronado and Nassar's track record includes victories in the $1,000,000 CSI5* 1.60m ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows, the CSI4* Grand Prix of Tryon, and the CSI5* Grand Prix of Palm Springs.
Coronado was trained internationally by Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA). In 2015, Nicolas Toro took over the reins, after which the gelding broke through to the highest level of the sport in 2021 with Mexico's Francisco Pasquel. Most recently, Irish rider Philip McGuane competed with the gray gelding.
"From unforgettable memories at the world's most beautiful shows, to incredible moments in the ring," Evergate Stables wrote. "He was a 'sweetheart' in the stable, but a true warrior in the arena! Thanks to his talent, consistency, and exceptional performances, Coronado was the epitome of modern sport."
Our team wishes Coronado a happy retirement!
