This week, Steve Guerdat is unfortunately forced to withdraw from the World Cup Final in Basel. The Swiss rider underwent emergency back surgery five weeks ago due to a hernia. On his Instagram, Guerdat shared an update on his health. “First of all, I want to sincerely thank everyone for their support and kind messages," said Guerdat.
"All of this helps and motivates me every day, and I look forward to seeing everyone back at the competition grounds soon,” he added.
“It has been five weeks since my surgery, and I am now fully focused on my recovery. Everything is going very well, thanks to an amazing team that works tirelessly every day to help me get back into top form. I am incredibly grateful to them.”
“The horses are also in excellent condition, thanks to my fantastic team. I have full confidence that I will be ‘back on track’ soon and ready to compete with full energy. I also want to send my best wishes to the World Cup Final in Basel—I’m sure it will be an amazing event,” concluded Guerdat, who has participated in an impressive fifteen World Cup Finals, winning three of them.
