The CSI5* Coupe de Genève delivered a high-level combination class at CHI Geneva, featuring a demanding 1.60m track followed by a decisive jump-off against the clock. With world ranking points on the line and a packed Palexpo arena, the class brought together many of the sport’s leading names. Switzerland ultimately claimed top honours, as Steve Guerdat produced the fastest double-clear performance to secure victory on home soil.
Steve Guerdat claimed the Coupe de Genève title aboard Albführen’s Iashin Sitte (Bamako de Muze) after producing a faultless first round in 50.88 seconds and stopping the clock in 27.99 seconds in the jump-off.
"I’m so proud of my horse, to have such a nice win here in Geneva in front of this crowd. Seeing Martin (Fuchs) go so fast helped: I already thought Scott (Brash) was quick, then Martin took every risk, and I told myself, OK, all or nothing. After the three jump-offs yesterday and on Thursday night I could have hesitated, but to win here you have to give everything. I had time to think, and in the jump-off we gave everything we had, and it worked today. I’m really happy.”, he explained afterwards.
Second place went to fellow Swiss rider Martin Fuchs with Conner Jei (Connor 48). Fuchs advanced to the jump-off after a clear round in 51.35 seconds and delivered a strong second round in 28.52 seconds, but ultimately finished just behind Guerdat in a closely contested duel between the home riders.
Italy secured third through Piergiorgio Bucci aboard Cortez van’t Klein Asdonk Z (Cornet Obolensky). The pair produced a clean first round in 49.08 seconds and followed up with a jump-off time of 28.98 seconds, earning a well-deserved podium place against elite opposition.
Germany finished fourth thanks to Hans-Dieter Dreher and Elysium (VDL Zirocco Blue). Dreher posted a clear opening round in 49.99 seconds and completed the jump-off in 29.21 seconds, maintaining consistency throughout both phases of the competition.
Ireland completed the top five through the only 20-years-old Tom Wachman riding Do It Easy (Vigo Cece). After qualifying with a clear round in 49.73 seconds, the combination crossed the finish line in 29.31 seconds in the jump-off, rounding out the leading group in a class defined by narrow margins.
