For Olivier Philippaerts, the foundation of success isn't found in the competition ring, but in the stable. “Everything starts with daily care,” says the top Belgian rider. “Even before training or competition, there is that moment where you truly get to know your horse.” According to him, this routine forms the bedrock of his work with horses, which is exactly why his partnership with Grooming Deluxe is such a seamless fit.
Olivier insists that grooming is not a secondary chore, but an essential part of his daily operations. “It’s not an ‘extra’ that you just squeeze in,” he explains. “It’s the moment where you truly feel how your horse is doing.” By grooming his horses himself, he picks up on the smallest signals. “You feel immediately if they are relaxed or reacting sensitively somewhere. Those kinds of details aren't always seen, but they are felt.”
According to Philippaerts, this attention to detail is indispensable in elite sport. “At our level, small things make the difference. What you see in the ring is the result of everything that happens before it.” Therefore, the tools he uses must align perfectly with his daily routine. “I use Grooming Deluxe products every day. They fit well in the hand, are sturdy, and yet gentle on the horses. You can tell they are made for real work.”
Designed by Professionals
What appeals to him most is the way the products are developed. “Claudi designs the products together with professional grooms,” Philippaerts says. “You notice that immediately. These are people who are in the stable day in and day out and know exactly what is needed.” According to him, this practical experience translates into materials that are both durable and functional. “These aren't products that are just pretty. They are made for daily use, and you can feel that.”
Beyond the practical aspect, grooming also holds mental value for him. “Before an important class, I often take some extra time to quietly brush my horse,” he says. “It helps me focus and helps the horse relax. That moment of calm is more important than people sometimes think.”
A Shared Vision
He also finds the collaboration with Thomas and Claudi—the founders of Kentucky Horsewear and the Grooming Deluxe line—to be a natural fit. “What I appreciate is that they truly listen to the sport,” says Philippaerts. “They have the same passion for horses and quality. Because of that, it doesn't feel like a traditional sponsorship, but rather like working with people who share the same vision.”
For Philippaerts, Grooming Deluxe ultimately summarizes what he stands for in the sport. “It’s about respect for the horse, attention to detail, and quality without compromise,” he concludes. “If you take the time every day to care for your horse properly, you get that trust and performance back in return.”
