Against the backdrop of Windsor Great Park, Luxembourg's Victor Bettendorf claimed a fine victory in the 1.50m against the clock. Riding the eleven-year-old gelding Atchoum de la Roque Z (s. Armitages Boy x Bentley vd Heffinck, 2015), he produced a clear round in 58.46 seconds — a time none of the 25 competitors could match.
The home riders made their presence felt. Jack Whitaker finished second with Skyfall OS (s. Diamant de Semilly, 2016) in 59.74 seconds. His father Robert Whitaker also delivered a clear round but had to settle for fifteenth place. The legendary John Whitaker — now 70 years old — also took to the arena, finishing with four faults. Windsor remains very much a Whitaker family affair.
Bronze for Irishman Coyle
Daniel Coyle took bronze with the Holstein mare Daydream (s. Phin Phin x Voltaire, 2016) in 60.29 seconds. Swiss rider Steve Guerdat had to settle for fourth place with Hadj de Bliniere (2017) in 60.49 seconds. The pair were followed by Sienna Charles and the sixteen-year-old mare Stardust (s. Chacco-Blue x Con Air).
