Christian Kukuk: "An Olympic top year! But I also realize that winning isn’t everything… our passion is what matters!"

What a year… While there are still some major international competitions on the calendar, it’s time to look back on a beautiful Olympic year! During this time, German rider Christian Kukuk leaped to Olympic victory! “That medal brought a lot into my life, but I remain aware that winning isn’t everything…”

“It was incredible to win the Olympic medal,” says Christian Kukuk. “Winning that gold medal really had an impact. It was truly the most memorable moment of my career, but I like to put things into perspective too!”

“Winning is great, but that’s not why we ride horses. I ride because it’s my passion. Winning is a nice bonus, but it’s not the essence!” continues the Olympic champion. “The passion you have as a top rider, that’s the most beautiful part of our sport. It’s what drives us to want to get to know the horses every day, both in the saddle and in the stable!”

“That’s also what I learned from Ludger. He really shaped me as a rider! He’s my boss, but I consider him more as a friend, a mentor—not just for the horses but also in my personal life!”

Checker 47; ups and downs!

“We’ve known each other for four years. We’ve experienced many highs, but also lows. That’s also the reason why we know each other so well,” the German explains. “We’ve been through a lot in a short period, which has made us understand each other extremely well!”
