Dutch dressage rider Emmelie Scholtens loses top stallion Apache

The fourteen-year-old KWPN-stallion Apache (Ub40), a horse we know from the Dutch dressage rider Emmelie Scholtens, was put to sleep Thursday because of incurable laminitis.

The owners and the team of Apache tried everything they could to give Apache the best chance of recovery, but he was in too much pain and there was very little to no hope for a complete recovery. Therefore, they decided to put him out of his misery. Rider Emmelie Scholtens rode Apache since he was four years old. She brought him to the highest dressage level.

"Apache was special in every single way! We will never get another horse like him in our stables, he was always so present ... This only makes this loss so much harder. Apache played an important part in the founding of our stable, and we are so grateful for all the beautiful moments with this amazing stallion!"

Apache and Emmelie were part of the Olympic team. After their victorious international GP-debut in 2015 at Outdoor Gelderland, numerous victories followed. In 2018, Apache was part of the Dutch dressage team for the WEG in Tryon.

His last competition was at the CSI in Geesteren. There, he won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special with more than 74%.
