Conor Swail, an Irish-born jumper ranked 41st in the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping standings, was charged with domestic battery, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law-enforcement officer for an incident early Friday. He was released that night after posting $7,000 bail.
According to the report, a woman who was with Swail told deputies that the two of them went drinking earlier in the evening. The woman said she and Swail began to “roughhouse” back at his residence, but it escalated. She said Swail held her down against her will, and she struggled to get away, scratching him.
She said Swail moved her hand to her throat to keep her from getting up and he struck her on her head, the report said. Swail released her, and she called 911.
When deputies arrived, Swail was asked to step outside the house, and a deputy said he stood in the doorway with fists clenched, breathing heavily, according to the report. Swail put one hand in his pocket, refusing to take it out when asked by the deputy. When the deputy tried to take control of his hand, Swail hit the deputy in the chest. The deputy then struck Swail several times before restraining him to arrest him.
