Riding his favorite horse, Berkarar, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan, fell of his horse last Sunday after crossing the finish line in Ashgabat. Mr. Berdymukhamedov fell seconds after winning the kilometre-long race. As it is the case in Turkmenistan the media have stayed silent about the fall. Also the footage on national television cuts right after the finish line.
News sites close to exiled Turkmen opposition mentioned that the fall had caused concern throughout Ashgabat. The Gundogar news site mentioned that officials were searching passengers leaving the country for footage of the incident in phones, tablets, and cameras. However, the footage was shown in the Russian state television, where they could not prevent the footage from getting out.
