Time to embrace the passionate breeder! Why not introduce a breeder bonus to motivate?

© Equ.Media

For 2 years now, Belgium has introduced the Belgian Breeder Bonus. At the FEI WBFSH World Championships for young showjumping horses the breeders can claim a bonus and in France breeders can win an extra cheque. It shows the importance - just like in racing - to put the spotlights on the breeders. While many experts warn the sport we are breeding to close to incest it is time to motivate the breeders to go back to their passion; breeding experimental with the aim of breeding a fantastic sport horse... not just for the money!. To motivate? Why not reserve 1% of all international and national earnings, reserved for the breeders? But who'll pay this bonus?
