The Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid has now really come to an end. The very last class was a 5* 1m50-competition with jump-off. A total of ten combinations were able to qualify for that jump-off and there was a lot of fighting for the first place. It remained exciting until the end but finally the Belgian top rider Gilles Thomas managed to secure the victory.
For the final class, Gilles Thomas chose the 12-year-old mare Calleryama (by Casall). They were able to set a time of 40.16 seconds quite early in the jump-off. There were eager attempts to improve on that time, but no one succeeded and so Gilles Thomas won this final 5* class.
Sergio Alvarez Moya, the last competitor, came dangerously close. With the BWP gelding Malibu de Muze (by Nabab de Reve) he finished in a time of 40.29 seconds, which was just not enough for victory and so they had to be satisfied with the second place. Hans-Dieter Dreher completed the top three with Vestmalle des Cotis (by Baloubet du Rouet). Pieter Devos and the BWP mare MoM's Isaura (by Tinka's Boy) finished in fourth place. Simon Delestre rode Dexter Fontenis Z (by Diarado) to fifth place.
