Jérôme Guery: "My intention for 2021? To win a medal!"

2021 is already two days away and 2020 is behind us. One of the Belgian riders in the spotlight last year was Jérôme Guery. He jumped from one victory to another in Hubside. We looked back on 2020 with the Belgian top rider.

"Actually, despite the current situation, I look back on 2020 with a positive feeling", he starts. "There was an enormous solidarity between the different riders and it shows that we are actually one big group of friends. I can't complain about sports either. My season had already started very strongly in Doha where I jumped into third place. After the lockdown I started in Saint-Tropez and my horses jumped very well there as well. So I can't complain about that, I think 2020 was a very good year in that area".

"Who do I think was the best athlete of 2020? Louis Hamilton. It's unbelievable what he did this year. He broke all records and I think he's an athlete that a lot of people look up to. His focus and mentality are super. He really lives for his sport and we can all take an example of that".

"My intention for 2021? Winning a medal (laughs). If it doesn't work out at the European Championship, it might work out at the Olympics", he concludes.
