In the jump-off, Gerfried Puck was the first to go, the Austrian who had already won the main event the day before. Starting with Idiaal Special H.J. (Falaise de Muze), Puck took a bit too much risk in the turn towards the BMW combination and made a mistake. For Christian Ahlmann, the man who had won almost everything there was to win in Mechelen, only a Grand Prix was missing from his list of achievements. On Blueberry (Conrad), he also took a risk towards the combination, and the rail of the first oxer fell to the ground. It quickly became clear that the BMW combination would play a key role in this jump-off.
As the fourth in the ring, Pius Schwizer with Cyra Z (Casimo) delivered the first flawless round in a time of 39.17s. Matthew Sampson showed that it could be even faster and, in a breathtaking ride, guided Daniel (Heartbreaker) to the finish line and the leading position in 38.44s. Thibeau Spits, the first Belgian to enter the ring, carried the band indicating that he was the best CSI5* rider at the moment in Mechelen. The young Belgian proved worthy of that honor and improved the time to a fast 37.87s. Petronella Andersson immediately reclaimed the leading position after a blazing ride with Cassina Z (Casado v't Gelutt Z), being a remarkable 75 hundredths faster than Spits.
