Pieter Devos' Claire Z retires. "Horses are the most important thing in our sport, Claire deserves such a farewell!"

Pieter Devos' announced the sporting retirement of Claire Z at Jumping Mechelen. The 15-year-old mare by Carthano I has done more than service under Devos and achieved several top victories in the highest branch of the sport. "Claire you provided me with a lot of great moments.... I also want to thank everyone who secured Claire Z for the sport! Horses are the most important thing in our sport, Claire deserves such a farewell!"

In 2019, after winning the LGCT Grand Prix of Miami, Devos said the following: Claire Z jumped a little too enthusiastically today, she's been jumping really fantastic the last few weeks. She is now 11 years old but owns a lot of energy. I am sure she will show a lot more. Claire will take me even further in the future."

And he was right! The Geert Schoonjans-bred Zangersheide mare ran no less than eighty shows at 1.60m level, collecting just under €800,000 in prize money. The duo reached the highest scaffold together over twenty times. Their palmares include a second place at the World Cup in Mechelen last year (2022). Among their most punishing achievements are a silver and bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

"You gave special a different meaning. Blood, sweat and tears but you taught me to be patient. From the moment you trusted us, we did more than I ever dared to dream."

"Victories at Nations Cups, Championships and even gold at the European Championships! When you were doubted the most, you stood up and gave us the Olympic medal."
