On Wednesday, David Broome won the Horse & Hound Lifetime Achievement Award at Cheltenham Racecourse. Broome - now 82 - rode at five Olympics.
The former showjumping rider won 14 championship medals including Britain's first individual Olympic medal, a bronze in 1960 in Rome. That same year he was the first British rider to be named sports personality of the year.
"I've had a wonderful time. Every win is important on the day and I've had a lot of fun," Broome says. "I can remember winning a £50 class, beating younger riders with a horse that couldn't go fast, but I managed. I was tickled pink that day."
Joe Stockdale won the Tommy Hilfiger Equestrian Young Rider of the Year award.
