Tommy Goody claims a winning double at South View

Two weeks after his prelim grand prix win at Pony of the Year Show, Tommy Goody doubled up with victories in the springboard 128cm and British Showjumping 128/138cm special final at South View’s winter pony finals on Hardwickview Yen Man.

The pair – both aged 11 – topped the Springboard 128cm final in style, galloping ahead to win by more than six sec.   ‘Max’ was bought four years ago as Tommy’s first pony and they have grown together. “I fell off a lot at first, but we got better together, he’s got a home for life now,” said Tommy.

Six of the 16 starters reached the jump-off with Danielle Saunders claiming second spot on Newtown Mighty Max.  Sarah Proudley rode Painted Lady into third with Madeleine Kerrigan on Time to Party in fourth ahead of fifth-placed Maria Williams on Hollytree Royal Wedding and Ryan de Sousa in sixth aboard Arrogan Emily TR.

Nine of the initial 17 accessed the jump-off of the 128/138cm special final, a confident Tommy and Max racing ahead to take their second win with 1.88 sec to spare.

The next four places were filled by 138cm ponies, Millie Hale taking second spot on Stafford with Ella Hall in third on Calusa, Ellie Thomas riding Ballyhannon Celtic Grey claimed fourth and Dafydd Watkin Jones rode into fifth on My Gem Pearle.

Charlie Atkinson claimed the 128cm grand prix on the consistent nine-year-old mare Daffodil in a head-to-head jump-off with Sophie Wicks and the 12-year-old Camizion with 1.83 sec in hand.

“She’s very rideable with a big stride like a mini horse,” said Charlie, who got the palomino from Sharon Quigley two years ago.
