The Las Vegas experience ... Day 1

The Las Vegas experience ... Day 1
The world cup finals are heading back to the city of spectacle, the ‘sin city’, reason for us to take the plane and bring a report of this nice event. This time it are not the riders, nor grooms who will keep a blog but our own reporter. Working two jobs during the event.

On Tuesday I got on the plane in Belgium, flying to Newark, New York. I must say, New York is still one of my favorite cities. I love the busy and multicultural atmosphere that covers the city.

But no time to stop. Las Vegas is calling me. However I decided to travel to Los Angeles, the city of Angels, first. Our USA ‘office’ of Equnews is based in this ‘overrated’ city, a good reason to catch up with some friends. Still, when having dinner with them nearby Burbank, it hits me that there will be no time or space to be relaxed in the next few days. Not only will the worldcup event ask for live coverage, I was also asked by the Organizing Committtée, specific, M. Marny Langer, to help with the award ceremonies. It will be a busy trip, but I’m still excited.

I know from experience that an American horseshow is always special. It is totally different from a European or Chinese event (that is more likely to be European as USA).

The first day in Las Vegas started for me on Wednesday. By then some of the national classes had already started. I must say, I expected the show to be similar to the South Point show, hosted in November in Sin city. But I was mistaken big time. The venue is huge, the arena is ‘different’. I am not an experienced show jumping rider, I had the privilage to start at some of the nicest shows in Europe and the USA already, but still, this is amazing... reason to be jealous. Explorering the venue I know understand why riders keep ‘fighting’ and working for those worldcup points.

Apart from the warming-up classes and a series of necessary meetings my shedule just was fairly relaxing. Arranging the parking, press accreditation, all-clearance passes and checking out the schedule to get started tomorrow.
