As third rider to go on the course the Belgian rider and his small and fast Clinton mare could just get that tighter turn towards fence number three putting the rest of the field out of order with a smashing 56.27 seconds on the clock. Many did attempt the same but had poles come down as e result.
Only Irish Billy Twomey put in a good attempt and came close with a round in 57.09 riding his Ardumcolem Duke (by Gypsy Duke). Swiss Janika Sprunger and Aris CMS (by Nassau) came in third putting in a fast round, that looked pretty effortless.
Brit Ben Maher and Don Vito stood not chance against the speedy time of Philippaerts with his round in 60.65 seconds. Nonetheless the pair finished in fourth place ahead of Italian speed rider Lorenzo De Luca that was outmatched on speed tonight.
