Jonathan Gordon secures Irish victory in CS2* Grand Prix Lier

In Lier, the second week of the Valentines Tour just continued with the Grand Prix of the CSI2* competition. Jumping over a height of 1m45, the riders were presented with an extremely difficult basic course: of the 55 starting combinations, only four managed to jump a clear basic round. A jump-off with four therefore had to decide on victory. With two Belgian jump-off candidates, things looked rosy for the Belgian audience, which was naturally keen on a home victory.

That home victory did not come in the end. Jonathan Gordon took off like a rocket with Capri (by Gentleman), resulting in a super-fast round in 35.37 seconds. A time that proved difficult to beat. Evelyne Putters came closest with High Fly Special (by Chacco-Blue). Riding the 12-year-old mare, the young Belgian rider was able to jump a clear round in 35.68 seconds which was immediately enough for second place. This immediately made them the only two combinations to record a double clear round behind their names.

Alexander Kumps and Luigi van de Kornelishoeve (by Carabas vd Wateringhoeve) took home third place. The duo had one jumping fault behind their name and clocked off in 41.55 seconds. Daniel Lahmann and Monty Python de L'Amitie (by Emerald) finished in fourth place.

Maikel van der Vleuten and O'Bailey vh Brouwershof (by Darco) completed the top five. They did leave all the rails in the basic course but got one point for time behind their name.
