The French stallion, Candy de Nantuel*GFE (Luidam x Diamant De Semilly), will henceforth fully focus on his breeding career as a sire. The retirement of the Selle Français stallion from sport was announced by Groupe France Élevage (GFE). “We have decided to station him in Belgium. He will remain available for breeding both in Belgium and France,” explains Arnaud Évain, president of GFE.
The stallion was trained by Alexis Gourdin and Thomas Rousseau and competed at the highest level of the sport with French rider Pénélope Leprévost. The duo achieved a second-place finish in the 1.55m CSI5* class at the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping in 2023.
As a breeding stallion, Candy de Nantuel has already achieved star status, with no fewer than 1,588 registered offspring in France alone (according to data from the Institut français du cheval et de l’équitation). Last year, the national database recorded 234 coverings. While his first offspring will reach the age of eight in 2025, the Selle Français already has sixteen offspring competing at the 1.40m level, including Candice van de Celiebruge and Iglou de Beugner.
