A well-filled jumping day in Leipzig came to its apotheosis tonight at the 5* opening class over 1.45m height. Under loud encouragement from the home crowd, German rider Mynou Diederichsmeier almost got wings and steered the 12-year-old Oldenburg mare Choccoloca (by Cador) to a smashing victory.
Diederichsmeier, who started in the middle of the field just before the drag break, sent the dark brown mare Choccoloca convincingly to gold in 57.09 seconds. The rider thus knocked top French rider Julien Epaillard out of first place, so the latter had to settle for silver in the saddle of the SBS mare Vitalhorse Ebbadya Hero (by Erco van 't Roosakker). The audience was treated to a second home medal with bronze from Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and the 11-year-old Holstein mare Cornela (by Cornet Obolensky).
Right next to the podium followed two more Swedish riders. Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli snatched fourth spot on the back of nine-year-old Kannan son, Kendrick 4. Her compatriot Linda Heed followed in fifth place by 18 hundredths with the Swedish Warmblood gelding Heartcore L (Heartbeat).
