Herbert Ulonska takes over MET

The organisation and marketing of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour series, which lasts several weeks and takes place in Oliva Nova in Spain, is now the responsibility of an experienced German equestrian sports company. Equestrian Sport Events Herbert Ulonska boasts more than two decades’ worth of events experience, equestrian sports expertise and commercial know-how. The Hamburg businessman and his team have been acquainted with the project since the premiere of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova, where a spacious, state-of-the-art equestrian sports centre has been developed, and they have brought their experience and contacts to the event ever since the planning stages. The proprietors have been looking for a new agency to manage the organisation and marketing of the MET, which draws riders from across the globe to Spain each year. Equestrian Sport Events Herbert Ulonska, which had already been trusted with the marketing, now hold total responsibility for the multi-week tournament series in Oliva Nova. The equestrian sports complex offers several exceptional tournament grounds boasting the tried and tested Dammann all-weather surface, as well as a grass Grand Prix ring, a course designed by top international course designer Frank Rothenberger and his team, secure stabling, a veterinarian clinic, connections with hotels, apartments, restaurants and leisure facilities, and good public transport links. The MET is a particular focal point for international show jumpers in the spring and autumn, since it presents an opportunity to start the outdoor season early, and indeed extend it, surrounded by excellent facilities and conditions. Herbert Ulonska is a highly successful entrepreneur in Hamburg and has ridden horses since childhood. In the 1980s he organised around 30 national tournaments for the ‘Norddeutschen und Flottbeker RV’ (North German and Flottbeck Riding Association) in Hamburg. His involvement in these events also led to the creation of the first international tournament following reunification in Rostock in 1990. Ulonska founded the CSI Neustadt-Dosse in the Graf von Lindenau-Halle and the CSI Redefin at the Mecklenburg County Stud. Ulonska, who also owns Maas J. Hell Stud Farm – the oldest private stud farm in Schleswig-Holstein – becomes Event Director of the MET with immediate effect. At his side is long-standing colleague Bettina Pöhls, focussing on show management, as well as several other staff members responsible for the technical aspects of the event, and the Spanish organisational crew.
