The FEI recently published their revised participation rules for the World Cup finals in Gothenburg. There was a lot of protest from the riders because of the changes the FEI had made. Fifteen of the eighteen riders in the final would be from the Western European league.
Under normal circumstances, Western Europe has only nine starting places in the final. Central Europe and North America also have their set quotas. In addition, there are always three extra starting places available for a rider from their own country, to a home athlete and another Wild Card. Because due to the Corona crisis it seemed that only one qualification would be ridden in Western Europe, the FEI decided to give three extra starting places to riders from this league but it is now going back on that.
