This morning in Hickstead, the CSI5* riders came into action for the first time in 'The Royal International Salver', a 1m50 class with jump-off. Fourteen combinations managed to qualify for the jump-off and, as usual, British riders were very well represented here. Not surprisingly, the victory in this section also fell into British hands: Jack Whitaker rode Equine America Valmy de la Lande (by Mylord Carthago) clear to the finish in 41.15 seconds, enough to take the victory in his name.
Will Edwards followed with SHW Candies B (by Chacco-Blue) in second place. This combination did not come close to the wood and finished in 41.75 seconds. Joseph Stockdale completed the podium. He counted on Ebanking (by VDL Sheraton) to ride clear to the finish in 42.68 seconds.
For his part, Matthew Sampson came fourth. He sent his 15-year-old Daniel (by Heartbreaker) clear through the jump-off in 42.92 seconds. John Whitaker completed the British party with fifth place. He saddled Sharid (by Toulon) to ride clear to the finish in 43.11 seconds.
