Course designer, Louis Koninckx set a difficult and tricky Jump-Off in the 1.60m Trophée de Genève. A total of 18 combinations took the start in the Jump-Off. In the end it was Brazil's Marlon Modolo Zanotelli who set the record time.
As third last to go, Marlon Modolo Zanotelli set the unbeatable time aboard his KWPN-gelding, VDL Edgar M (Arezzo VDL). The pair was eventually followed on stage by Luxembourg's Victor Bettendorf and the 10-year-old Mr. Tac (Non Stop). For this pair their first time in Geneva at the CSI5* level. Ireland's Shane Sweetnam completed the stage with his Kanna-son, James Kann Cruz.
"Geneve is a really great show. I already won a lot of CSI5* competitions but never in Geneva. This is really incredible," Zanotelli reacts.
Step by Step
First at the start was Henrik von Eckermann and his 9-year-old Calizi (Cellestial). The pair jumped a rail down on the third fence, the Credit Suisse oxer. Setting the performance to beat with 4 faults and a time of 36,10 seconds.
The local crowd went while when Martin Fuchs followed at the start aboard Commisar Pezi (Commissario). Together with the 9-year-old gelding Fuchs performed a clear round in 47,32 seconds. It was waiting until the fifth combination at the start, Shane Sweetnam and James Kann Cruz (Kannan) to see another clear round. The pair bested Fuchs' time with almost 12 seconds.
A while later it was Belgium's Wilm Vermeir and his trusted IQ Van het Steentje to set another clear round. The pair wasn't fast enough and jumped in the temporary third spot. Eventually they placed fifth as Christian Ahlmann immediately bested the time with his approved sire Dominator 2000 Z .
Victor Bettendorf followed with a clear round. A great performance for their first five star competition, but Marlon Modolo Zanotelli still had to follow at the start. Together with VDL Edgar M the pair set the eventual unbeatable time. Fastest time was for Steve Guerdat who eventually placed sixth with one jumping fault.
