The Brazilian equestrian federation has officially nominated Joao Marcari Oliva as the individual dressage rider for Brazil at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Brazil initially qualified a team for Tokyo, but late action by the riders in 2019 and a lack of support from the Brazilian Equestrian Federation ultimately led to them losing their team slot.
By the deadline of 31 January 2019, the Brazilians were frantically competing across Europe in a final attempt to get their MER scores, even shipping their horses to Moscow in a last-ditch effort, but to no avail.
Brazil was left with one individual starting place.
