A good horse always has a price, right? Think again! Galloway Sunrise (by Doty Officer) managed to achieve a brilliant sixth place at the American championship for eventing horses. Fylicia Barr, the owner and rider of the horse, bought him for only 500 dollars. At the start of the showjumping round, the combination was even in the lead, but due to some time and jumping faults in the course, they did not manage to hold on to that leading position.
"Galloway Sunrise was completely green when I bought her as a 2-year-old mare. She had not even seen a halter up close yet. It was a long way to get here. As a kid it was always my dream to ride advanced level with her and now that dream is coming true!" she tells US Eventing. "I have trained the horse myself to the highest level. That in itself is an achievement, but when you can also compete for the title, then you can't have any more fun. Her best part is the cross-country, so I knew that if we were fast in this part, we could achieve a nice ranking.
