Shauna Cook on top in CSI3*

Shauna Cook and Caya took the win in the CSI3* 1.45m at Thunderbird Show Park 2022.

It's the second 1.45m show for the young mare and she already knew how to win. They left James Chawke (IRL) and Howard du Seigneur in second place. Nicole Hauntert (USA) came in third with Camalita.

Cook and Caya jumped one of just three clear first rounds over the 1.45m track. But in this format, the top 10 combinations return for a shortened course with a blank slate. Chawke, who finished second, took full advantage of this opportunity and took the lead after having a rail in the first round. This gave Cook a target and she managed to go past them, by riding one stride less than them.

At first, Cook didn't want to buy Caya. It was her mother who persuaded her into the talents of the mare. When she first tried Caya, she didn't feel it click. But her mother saw it otherwise and decided to buy the horse. She saw a diamond in the rough and she likes grey's. "Thank goodness our mothers know best", she says.
