In the new talk show "Jump-Off", which discusses current events in the equestrian world, Stephan Conter was a guest last week. The organiser of Knokke Hippique was asked whether his show was not mainly 'for the rich of the earth'. Conter's answer was clear: "We have to get rid of the idea that our sport is only for the 'rich and famous'".
"I think that the different rich families may have caused our sport to evolve so rapidly but that does not mean that horse riding is only for the rich. Anyone can buy a horse and train it to a higher level. If you go to a regional competition, for example, you clearly notice that everyone enjoys the sport. And that, of course, is wonderful. Moreover, there are so many competitions organized that every rider can go and ride somewhere".
Stefaan Lammens, presenter of the show, asked whether the competition in Knokke was not more suitable for the more affluent rider, as there is a riders fee and accomodation fee to be paid. Conter's answer to that question? Watch the first episode of Jump-Off now on Equschool (in Dutch)!
