What a fantastic end to the Longines Global Champions Tour season! All week long the Prague Play-Offs were the stage for top sport at the very highest level. Yesterday Henrik von Eckermann won the Super Grand Prix after an extremely exciting competition. Today the riders competed in the Longines Global Champions League Super Cup final!
In the end, it was the youngest group in the circuit that took the win: The London Knights. In the first round, teammates Nicola Philippaerts (Katanga vh Dingeshof) and Emily Moffit (Winning Good) jumped to a clear round but had to register one time fault. Olivier Philippaerts with Le Blue Diamond v't Ruytershof had one jumping fault and he too was just not fast enough. However, they went into the second round with a total of seven penalty points, which put them in the lead. In the second round they did what no one else could: all three stayed clear. Their total of 7 penalty points remained unchanged and so they win the big GCL Super Cup Final!
The team of the Paris Panthers followed in second place with a total of 18 penalty points. Darragh Kenny and VDL Cartello collected a total of 4 penalty points over two rounds, putting in the best performance for the team. Gregory Wathelet with Nevados S also had only one jumping fault but had to add a time penalty. Harrie Smolders and Monaco collected a total of 9 penalty points over two rounds.
The bronze was for the Berlin Eagles. Ludger Beerbaum and Mila stayed clear in the first round, but also got one time penalty. The German also broke a finger, which could have jeopardized his performance in the second round. Christian Kukuk and Checker scored nine penalties, Philipp Weishaupt and Coby eight... Beerbaum still started in the second round and made one jumping fault there. A team total of 22 penalty points made them finish in third place.
