Looking back on 2020: The best online auctions

2020 was a weird year for everyone, competition was cancelled, we all went into lockdown and trade was not always smooth. But the equestrian sport wouldn't be the equestrian sport if there were no new initiatives to keep our sport and trade going. Several already existing auctions such as the auction of Paul Schockemöhle, those of BWFA and Belgian Horse Trading were no strangers in the auction world before the start of the lockdown. They switched to an online version of their auction. This year, however, new initiatives also saw the light of day. We selected for you the five most groundbreaking online auctions of 2020.

1. Eye of The Master

The Eye of the Master auction is currently still ongoing. For this auction we worked together with several 'masters' who delivered their favorite horse. The organization of the auction put together an impressive collection based on the selection of their 'Masters' including Peder Fredricson and Jos Verlooy. We don't know yet how much this auction will have to offer as it will run until December 26th.

The Eye of the Master website was created by Branding Pro and marketing is in the hands of the Eye of the Master team itself.

2. The Collection

This auction was the first auction that dared to sell 'high end' horses at an online auction this year. The initiative of Steve Tinti and Carlos Pinto turned out to be a huge success. Their auction topper Corlou (by Cornet Obolensky) went for no less than 252.000 over the digital counter. Six other horses changed hands for 100,000 euros or more.

The marketing of this project was in the hands of the team of 'The Collection' itself. The website was created by WeAuction.

3. Chosen

The Chosen team selected their horses in the summer based on their exceptional qualities and bundled these 'Chosen Talents' in an online auction. This auction only focused on ridden horses from four to seven years old. Their auction topper Asca Chin de Saulieu moved to Switzerland for a considerable amount of money. Enzo de Laubry (by Echo van Spieveld) also moved to France for a nice amount of money.

The website and marketing of this project were taken care of by the Branding Pro team.

4. Paardenveilingenonline.com

Paardenveilingenonline.com probably provided the most variety in the digital auction landscape this year. They auctioned embryos, foals as well as ridden horses and both jumping and dressage horses went under the digital hammer. Change of food makes them eat and they had understood that very well at this auction: every safe was a great success.

Both the website and marketing of this auction are managed by Paardenveilingenonline.com itself.

5. Equbreeding

Belgian breeding is one of the best in the world and the team of Equbreeding knew this like no other. Their auction was groundbreaking as they only auctioned foals and embryos from the best dam lines in the world. All mothers had jumped at least 1m45, which almost guarantees a bright future in top sport. Equbreeding organized two online auctions this year: one for foals and embryos, during their last auction in December only embryos went over the digital counter.

The Brandingpro team assisted Equbreeding both in the field of website and marketing.
