In an interview with the Dutch magazine NLCoack, Tineke Bartels gave some more information about her task as coach. Bartels is head coach at the KNHS, she also looks back on her own career as a top athlete: "Horses are so positive", she starts. "They always feel like training. Riders must of course be well trained, both mentally and physically, but also our horses are athletes".
"The most fascinating part of my job for me is training the riders themselves. Riders need to be able to move around in the horse, they actually need to be able to communicate with a horse like horses communicate with each other. That's what makes everything so interesting. If you want to perform well, it is important that a combination functions optimally. Expressing stress and frustration on your horse is therefore out of the question. I advise everyone never to ride your horse 'fast'. Everything should be able to happen in a relaxed way".
