FEI suspends Mathilda Karlsson until January 2025

Germany-based but competing for Sri Lanka jumping rider Mathilda Karlsson will not compete again until January 2025. The Olympic rider was suspended by the FEI.

Mathilda Karlsson's suspension has been in effect since June 15, 2023. The reason: a violation of Article 2.4 of the FEI Anti-Doping Rules for Human Athletes (ADRHA). This article deals with violations of the duty to report by athletes. Anyone who fails to take and/or submit tests three times within 12 months violates the rules.

According to the International Testing Agency (ITA), the FEI's official partner for equestrian doping tests, Mathilda Karlsson failed to appear at three doping tests within those 12 months. On Aug. 4, she agreed to accept the consequences, and now she has been suspended for a total of 19 months. From Jan. 14, 2025, she will be allowed to ride again.

Over two months ago, however, she wrote on her Instagram page:

"With a heavy heart and tears in my eyes I have to hand over the reins of my beloved boys.... and face the most difficult time of my life. I look forward to seeing my horses jump at the world's greatest tournaments - even though I won't be there. But I feel relieved that this witch hunt is over."
