Bertram Allen tops Irish stage in Falsterbo's Derby

German course designer, Frank Rothenberger, built a fair 19- jump Derby at the Falsterbo horse show in Sweden. Known as a difficult Derby in two phases and over 1.60m height, this time no less than three combinations made a clear finish. All Irish, with Bertram Allen on top. Aboard the 8-year-old Belgian Bred gelding by Indoctro x Clinton I, Christy Jnr, Allen speeded to victory in 49.31 seconds. His basic 19 jump round Allen completed in 170.19 seconds. Allen made it a close win on compatriot Shane Sweetnam with the also Belgian bred, Indra van de Oude Heihoef. Together with the 9-year-old Casantos-mare, Sweetnam finished clear in 50.02 seconds. Cian O'connor followed in a third place with the 12-year-old Copain du Perchet CH (by Conteur).   As a home-rider, Peder Fredericson was the favorit in the Jump-Off. With H&M Carat Desire (by Carinjo) Fredericson jumped one rail down in the jump-off, placing outside the stage in fourth. Satu Liukkonen completed the top five with Celestin (by Cardento) after one jumping fault in the first round. Click here for the results
