Coyle, Ballard and White keep rolling at Classic @ Palgrave CSI2* Phase 2

Daniel Coyle and Ariel Grange's FARONA won their second Grand Prix in as many weeks after claiming top prize in the $35,500 FEI Grand Prix, presented by Case IH last week during the second phase of Classic @ Palgrave CSI2*. The win adds to an impressive start to the 2018 season for the Irishman at Caledon Equestrian Park (CEP), after the pair won the $35,500 FEI Grand Prix, presented by Horseware, the previous week during the Caledon National CSI2*. It was Coyle's fourth big win in the first two weeks of FEI competition at Caledon Equestrian Park. Coyle and FARONA beat out a starting field of 17 horses and riders for the red ribbon, edging out Beth Underhill and Count Me In, and Erynn Ballard and EDISON P in the jump off, who placed second and third, respectively. Ballard's result in Sunday's Grand Prix capped off a string of six top-three finishes over the first two weeks of FEI competition at the park. The rider from Tottenham, Ont., kicked off the second phase of the Classic @ Palgrave CSI2* (May 23-27) with a win in the $35,500 FEI Open Welcome on Thursday (May 24). In that class, Ballard bested a starting field of 30 competitors while riding Handy Van HD, owned by Ilan Ferder and Tal Milstein. Ian Millar and Vittorio 8, and Elissa Reisman riding CITIZENGUARD CADJANINE Z rounded out the top three finishers. Ballard also added a second-place ribbon on Saturday (May 26) riding BELLA DONNA in the $35,500 FEI Table A Speed class, coming in just behind Rockwood, Ontario's Keean White and LEILANI, owned by Lisa Maria Gauthier and Angelstone Farms. Susan Horn and Balintore placed third in the class. The win was White's second on the week after he and Emergo, owned by Terri Brent Stables and Cynthia Gordon, beat out Vanessa Mannix and HEY JUDE in the 1.40m Jumper Class on Wednesday. Ballard, this time riding Ironman Van Klapscheut, placed third. The Classic @ Palgrave CSI2* Phase 2 also featured the first leg of the $10,000 Under 25 Young Rider Development series on Friday (May 25), a national series featuring some of the world's top young riders. Brennan McCullagh and his mount WKM XENIA won the class, with Coyle and FARREL, and Barbara Ruziska and ELONIE taking home second and third, respectively.
