Darragh Kenny tacked up Fixdesign Funke van’t Heike to win the €24,600 El Periodico Trophy on Friday, September 23rd at CSIO5* Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. Kenny topped a class of over 30 pairs in the Table C competition, coming in ahead of 2nd placed finisher John Whitaker aboard Echo of Light by less than a second. Nadja Peter Steiner and Capuera II were 3rd for Switzerland, and Spain’s Eduardo Alvarez Aznar was 4th with Seringat. Rene Lopez of Colombia rounded out the top five with Big Brother. Ireland’s Kenny has only been riding Fixdesign Funke van’t Heike since July, when he took over the ride from Italy’s Giulia Martinengo Marquet. In August he picked up at CSI4* win with the 11-year-old Belgian mare (Action-Breaker x Brandeur), but his Friday win was his first CSIO5* victory with the mare. All riders at CSIO Barcelona are competing in the 2016 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final on other horses.
